CHELSEA COONEY CERAMICS

I am a Ceramic Artist living and working in Cheshire, UK. Currently on residency at Hartford High School.

I graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design in 2013 after obtaining a Masters and BA Degree in Ceramics.

Artist Statement

I use my artistic practice to explore themes such as, composition, the everyday and femininity.

​

Everyday objects intrigue me. Things that are mass produced and yet we label them 'our own'. The utensils we accumulate in the home, or the items we collect in order to feel more feminine.

I re-create these objects. My ceramic pieces are essentially three dimensional drawings. Building from thin slabs of porcelain I try not to over work the clay. I leave torn edges. The ceramic is built up of lines and edges, keeping the same qualities that make an interesting drawing. The small single elements then make one larger composition. Each piece needs another to work and together they perform.
